Limited Funding Available for Low Income Family Home Repairs
WAMY has received funding through a Housing Preservation Grant to provide some repairs and rehabilitation to homes owned by low-income families in Watauga, Avery, Mitchell and Yancey Counties. These funds can be used to fix a leaking roof, repair plumbing or electrical hazards, or other health and safety issues in the home.
In order to qualify for the program, applicants must meet certain income guidelines, must own the home and the structure must be a site built home or a mobile home on a permanent foundation. The program is a grant so no repayment is ever necessary. Once the repairs are made, WAMY can then add insulation and air seal the home to make it more energy efficient and save the family up to 31% on their heating cost. The heating system will also be cleaned, tested and repaired if necessary.
These funds are limited so interested homeowners should act now. Contact WAMY at 828-264-2421 or 1-800-571-9269 for more information. Applications may also be downloaded from the website at http://wamycommunityaction.org/programs/housing-services.html
